Product Description

VELO Minty Lemon: Cool Lemonade in a Pouch

VELO Minty Lemon (formerly Citrus Mint) is sharp lemon over a peppermint base, sold in slim tobacco-free cans at 10mg with twenty pouches in each. The most accurate description belongs to a reviewer rather than the brand: it tastes like sipping a cool glass of minty lemonade, which is precise enough that it is hard to improve on.

Despite the name putting mint first, the lemon is what you notice. That ordering matters, because it makes this a genuinely different proposition from every other mint on the shelf, and the only real citrus option among them.

The Only Lemon in the VELO Range

Look through the whole UK catalogue and this is the one lemon flavour in it. There is orange in the sensate line and lime in a warming flavour, but a straightforward lemon exists exactly once, here, blended with mint.

That scarcity is not an accident. Lemon is difficult in a pouch: the acidity that makes it taste alive is unpleasant against the gum over a long session, and the volatile oils that carry the aroma fade quickly. Most brands avoid it or bury it in sweetness. VELO's route was to pair it with peppermint, which supplies the freshness that the acidity would otherwise have to provide.

The result is that Minty Lemon does not really compete with anything. If you want lemon from this brand, this is the pouch, and if you want mint with something brighter on top, it is also the pouch. Being unopposed is its main structural advantage.

What Minty Lemon Tastes Like, and Why It Changes

Open the can and the citrus is unmistakable, with peppermint sitting just behind it. In the mouth the lemon leads immediately: bright, zesty and more tart than most citrus-mint blends manage, with the mint as an undertone rather than a partner.

Here is the interesting part, and it is genuinely unusual. Most pouches lose their top notes first, so a flavour starts complex and ends up as whatever the base was. This one does the opposite. As the session goes on the mint recedes and the lemon comes through more strongly, so the pouch finishes more citrus-forward than it started.

Practically, that means Minty Lemon rewards patience in a way that fading fruit flavours do not. Thirty minutes and beyond is comfortably achievable, and the back half is arguably the better half. The nicotine is noticeable from early on: one reviewer moving up from 7mg pouches found the 10mg here distinctly more hard-hitting, so treat it as a real 10mg rather than a gentle one.

The pouch itself behaves the way VELO pouches generally do: slim, moderately moist, comfortable enough to forget about, with the low drip the brand is reliably good at. The can is the standard design with a catch compartment under the lid, which is a small thing until you are somewhere without a bin.

Worth knowing where the cooling comes from, because it is not the lemon doing it. Citrus reads as refreshing but produces no actual cold sensation, so everything chilly in this pouch is the peppermint. That is why the flavour feels cooler at the start than at the end: as the mint recedes, the cooling goes with it and you are left with the citrus on its own. Nobody who has only tasted it for five minutes has tasted the whole thing.

The honest limits. It is tart, and tartness divides people more than sweetness does, so anyone expecting a soft lemonade sweetness will find it sharper than anticipated. The mint is genuinely secondary, which will disappoint you if you came for a mint pouch with a twist rather than a citrus pouch with a base. And there is one strength only, so there is nowhere to go if 10mg turns out to be wrong for you.

Citrus Mint to Minty Lemon: What Changed

Nothing inside the can. The January 2024 rebrand renamed most of the VELO catalogue at once, switched the packaging to colour coding and introduced the dot strength system. Citrus Mint became Minty Lemon in that sweep, with the recipe and the 10mg untouched.

The rename was also one of the less logical ones. Citrus Mint described the pouch accurately, whereas Minty Lemon puts the mint first when the lemon is what leads, so the new name arguably reads backwards. That is a small thing, but it explains why people who know the flavour keep reaching for the old name.

Retailers have been slow to catch up on this one in particular. Several UK shops still list the pouch as Citrus Mint, and the old cans circulated for a long time after the change, so both names remain in use. If you have been buying Citrus Mint and cannot find it, you are looking at it.

Other flavours went the same way in the same month: Ice Cool became Crispy Peppermint, Polar Mint became Bright Spearmint and Cool Storm became Peppermint Storm. Our VELO guide holds the full before-and-after list.

The 10mg, and the Three-Dot Question

One strength, sitting in the middle of the VELO ladder.

StrengthDots on the canVELO tierFormatWho it suits
10mg3 dots ⦿⦿⦿OriginalSlim, 20 per canModerate daily users. Reads firmer than the number suggests

Three dots is the only genuinely ambiguous rung on VELO's scale, because the brand uses that same count for 8mg flavours as well as 10mg ones. A three-dot Minty Lemon and a three-dot Bright Spearmint are two milligrams apart and look identical on a shelf. The printed number is the one to read.

There is no mini version of this flavour and no second strength, which makes Minty Lemon one of the more inflexible cans in the range. If 10mg is not your level, the honest answer is that no amount of searching will produce a 6mg or a 14mg version of it.

Minty Lemon Against the Other VELO Mints

Judged as a mint, this is the outlier: the only one where another flavour leads and the mint supports.

VELO Crispy Peppermint6mg, 10mgDry straightforward peppermint. The UK best-seller

VELO Peppermint Storm11mg, 14mg, 17mgMenthol-led and sharp, with real strength behind it

If Minty Lemon appeals but you want the mint to lead, Crispy Peppermint at the same 10mg is the direct swap. If you want the citrus idea without mint attached, Orange Spark takes the sweeter route and adds a tingling sensate instead. The full range is on the VELO collection page, and the mint and menthol shelf covers everything else we stock.

Tobacco-free means no tobacco leaf rather than laboratory-made nicotine. UK VELO uses pharmaceutical-grade nicotine extracted from the tobacco plant, carried on plant cellulose fill. The can carries the usual catch-lid compartment for used pouches, and the all-white construction will not discolour teeth the way traditional snus can.

How to Use VELO Minty Lemon

Twist the lid rather than levering it. Fresh pouches sit in the body of the can and the shallow ring underneath the lid takes the used ones until you find a bin.

Place one pouch flat under your upper lip against the gum. Lemon and mint both register within the first minute and the nicotine follows shortly after, more promptly than the 10mg label might lead you to expect.

Thirty minutes or more is the useful window, and this is one of the few flavours worth staying with rather than swapping early, since the citrus strengthens rather than fades. One at a time. Swallowing your saliva is fine, swallowing the pouch is not. If 10mg sounds like more than you want, our low strength collection covers the gentler end, and our note on daily pouch use is worth a read before ordering in volume.

What Ten Cans Cost

Single cans of VELO go for around £6.50 on the high street, so ten works out near £65. Our ten-can pack is £34.99, which comes to £3.50 a can.

With one strength and no mini, there is nothing to mix within Minty Lemon itself. If you are unsure whether the tartness suits you, the sensible approach is to pair it with a plain peppermint so you have an alternative in the rotation. The rest of the range is on the VELO range page.

Who Should Buy It, and Who Should Skip It

Buy it if you want citrus from this brand, because this is the only place to get it. Buy it if peppermint on its own has started to bore you and you want something with a brighter top note, or if you like a flavour that holds its shape through a long session instead of thinning out after ten minutes.

Skip it if you want a proper mint pouch, since the mint here is a base rather than the point, and Crispy Peppermint at the same strength is what you actually want. Skip it if tart flavours are not for you, because this is sharper than a sweet lemonade. And skip it if 10mg is the wrong level, since there is genuinely nothing else in this flavour to move to.

The official listing is on the VELO UK Minty Lemon page, and our VELO flavour ranking sets it against the rest. Nicotine is addictive whatever it tastes like, and these pouches are for adults who already use it.

Nice mix of lemon and mint. The citrus flavour is bright and tangy, with a refreshing peppermint finish. A good change from the usual fruit flavours.

A really refreshing combination
Really enjoyed VELO Minty Lemon. The zesty lemon gives it a sharp citrus taste, while the peppermint keeps it fresh and cool. A really refreshing combination.
