Product Description

Killa Spearmint Extra Strong: The Softest Flavour, The Same Hard Dose

Killa Spearmint Extra Strong is the mildest-tasting can Killa makes and the one people move to when Cold Mint has worn out its welcome. Sweet, herbal, recognisably chewing-gum spearmint, with only a trace of menthol behind it and none of the lip sting the brand is known for. What has not changed is the nicotine: 13.2mg per pouch, exactly the same as every other Killa on the shelf.

That combination, the softest flavour attached to the strongest dose, is what makes this can work for some people and fail for others. Both sides of that are covered below.

The Flavour, Start to Finish

Spearmint arrives quickly and stays gentle. It is sweeter than peppermint, greener, closer to a stick of chewing gum than to anything medicinal, and there is a small cooling lift behind it rather than a proper freeze. Nothing about the opening is aggressive, which is the entire selling point.

It runs a little drier than the fruit cans and slightly drier than Cold Mint too, so drip is modest. Flavour holds well for the first fifteen minutes or so and stays present across a twenty to forty five minute session, fading rather than dropping away.

The Honest Problem With a Soft Flavour at This Strength

A recurring complaint about this can is worth putting up front rather than burying. Some users find the spearmint gets overwhelmed by the nicotine, leaving a strong hit with barely any flavour attached and a lingering aftertaste they do not enjoy. That criticism appears often enough across review sections to be real rather than a one-off.

It tends to happen to people with a lower tolerance, or people running long sessions. The cans with heavier flavours, the mints with real menthol or the sweet fruit ones, give the nicotine something to hide behind. Spearmint does not, and at 13.2mg there is a lot to hide.

Two things help. Keep the session shorter, fifteen to twenty minutes rather than the full forty five, since the flavour fades before the nicotine does. And eat first, which matters more here than with almost any other can in the range. If you still find the taste disappears behind the hit, the honest answer is that this strength is too much for you in this flavour, and a milder spearmint from another brand will serve you better.

Spearmint or Cold Mint?

This is the decision most people arrive with, since Spearmint is the standard recommendation for anyone finding Cold Mint too aggressive.

Spearmint if you want comfort. Cold Mint if you want the flavour to keep up with the dose.

Spearmint or Peppermint, and Why They Are Not the Same Mint

Worth explaining, because the two words get used interchangeably and they describe genuinely different plants with different chemistry. Peppermint's character comes largely from menthol, which is what produces the cold sensation and the tingle. Spearmint contains very little menthol; its flavour comes mostly from carvone, which tastes sweet and herbal and does almost nothing to your nerve endings.

That is the whole reason this can feels mild while Cold X Mint feels brutal. It is not that one has less flavouring; it is that spearmint simply lacks the compound that makes mint cold. If you want mint that tastes minty without any freeze, spearmint is the botanical answer rather than a watered-down peppermint.

Where It Sits in the Seven Killa Mints

At the bottom for cooling and near the top for sweetness, which makes it the entry point of the range. The full seven-way comparison, ranked by cold and by sweetness, lives on the Double Mint page rather than being repeated here.

The closest sibling is Exclusive Green Mint, which is also herbal rather than icy but drier and less sweet. If Spearmint is right but you want less sugar, that is the sideways step. The rest of the range sits in Killa Original and Killa Exclusive.

Reading the 16.5mg on the Can

The dropdown reads 16.5mg, a concentration per gram rather than a dose. Pouches weigh 0.8g, so the figure that matters is 13.2mg of nicotine per pouch.

FigureValueWhat it describes
Per gram16.5mg/gConcentration, as printed on the can
Per pouch13.2mgThe dose in one portion
Pouch weight0.8gWhat links the two

This can attracts more conflicting figures than most: you will find it listed at 11.2mg, at 12.8mg and at 13mg, and one listing describes 0.7g pouches. Our cans and product code show 16.5mg per gram across 0.8g pouches, which is 13.2mg. Being milder in flavour does not make it milder in nicotine, and Extra Strong is the name of the Original line rather than a tier. The Killa hub covers this across the range.

If You Want a Gentler Spearmint

Spearmint suits people who are not chasing a heavy hit, so it is worth saying plainly that 13.2mg is optional.

Nordic Spirit SpearmintNordic SpiritMainstream and considerably milder
Velo Bright SpearmintVeloLow strengths available, easy all-day use

The Pablo option is the interesting one here, since it is the same manufacturer in Aalborg making a lighter version of the same idea. Our Pablo strength guide sets out where the Silver line sits.

Running the Session

Eat first, and mean it with this one. A gentle flavour plus a strong dose is the combination most likely to catch somebody out, because nothing in the taste tells you what is arriving.

Keep it shorter than you would with a heavier can. Fifteen to twenty minutes gets you the flavour while it is still there, and running to forty five mostly gets you nicotine and aftertaste. Place it flat and leave it alone. Our guide to how many pouches a day is sensible covers pacing, and what snus actually is explains why none of these contain tobacco.

Who Should Skip It

Anyone new to nicotine pouches. The softness makes this the most deceptive can in the range for a beginner, not the safest.

Anyone who wants the flavour to stand up to the strength. It often does not, and that is the single most common complaint about this can.

Anyone who wants cooling. Spearmint has almost no menthol in it by nature.

Anyone who dislikes sweet mint. This is chewing-gum territory, and Cool Mint is the cleaner, drier alternative at the same strength.

Fakes, Storage and the Practical Bits

Check that the lid print is crisp rather than soft at the edges, that the batch code is stamped into the can rather than stickered on, and that the catch lid closes flush. NGP publishes its own listings at killapods.eu for comparison.

Keep the can shut and out of sunlight. A delicate flavour has less to lose before it becomes noticeable, so a stale Spearmint reads as almost flavourless and makes the nicotine problem worse. The fridge helps if you work through cans slowly. Cans are sold in packs of ten, which is 200 pouches, and the per-can price steps down as you add packs: £3.50 a can at two packs, £3.33 at three and £2.99 at four. The single-pack rate is on the listing above.

The Verdict

The right can for a specific person: somebody who already handles this strength comfortably and wants a break from menthol. It is genuinely pleasant, properly sweet without being sickly, and easily the most comfortable Killa to sit with.

The catch is structural rather than a fault in the recipe. A delicate flavour and a 13.2mg dose are pulling in opposite directions, and for a fair number of people the nicotine wins. If that sounds like you, take the same flavour at a lower strength rather than persevering with this one.
